This is great. Saw you on craftgawker...I think. I have been creating cakes for my kids birthdays for the last few years as well. I love doing it, but it does get kind of stressful. It's worth it in the end when they see the cake.
What did you use for the things sticking out on the puffer fish? I couldn't tell from the picture, I've been trying to experiment with different candies and haven't found anything I like
To be honest Renea this was a while ago and I don't 100% remember. I know that it was Wilton's and I did by it from a specialty cake shop but I can even remember if it I had to mix it or if it was ready-made. Sorry.
I used a ball cake pan from a a speciality cake shop. The mixture for one cake only about 1/2 filled it though. The ball cake pans can be tricky too, you have to make sure your sides are well greased otherwise it doesn't rise evenly.
Ummm... I think that's the most amazing home-made cake I've ever seen! So much detail! Hope your little man loved it!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute!! Well done :)

ReplyDeleteSo true Stephanie. I made this cake very late the night before the party and was surprised to see that it worked out so well!

ReplyDeleteGood luck with the experimenting.
what cake pan did you use - i think i would use bugles for the fins.

ReplyDeleteBugles would work - just be careful not to do it too far in advance so they don't go soggy and fall out.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
